Google Caffeine

The new web indexing system from Google, “Caffeine” is now up and running. Google designed the search indexing system over 13 months ago, in order to keep up with the huge growth of the internet, as well as to meet rising user expectations. According to sources, Caffeine offers up to 50 percent fresher results for web searches than the previous Google indexing system. Google also say that Caffeine offers more indexed web content than ever before.
Caffeine allows Google to index web pages on a much larger scale than before, allowing users to find information and new pages faster than before. The main difference, is that the old indexing system was comprised of several layers, which refreshed at a much slower rate because Google would analyze the whole web before a page would be made available to the searcher. With Caffeine, Google analyzes the web in small sections, and updates the search index on a regular basis.

According to the announcement, "Caffeine takes up nearly 100 million gigabytes of storage in one database and adds new information at a rate of hundreds of thousands of gigabytes per day."

What does this mean for website owners? The bottom line, is that your new content is likely to be found and indexed faster than under the old system. The mythical ranking algorithms remain unchanged though.

PPC - Pay Per Click

What is PPC ? Pay-per-click (PPC) advertising is when an advertiser pays for each click that sends a search engine user to your web page. Using a PPC service such as Google AdWords, the advertiser (you) has their advertisement placed on the results page of a search engines results. Yon will not pay a penny until this advert has been clicked on. Some of the PPC service providers enable you to not only bid on keywords, but also narrow down which geographical regions and at what times your adverts appear.

Pay Per Click requires you to bid on keywords or phrases that relate to your business. Although you can bid from as little as a few cents per visitor, especially on little used keywords, the more you bid, the higher up in the search engine your advertisement will appear. PPC is a great way to deliver targeted visitors to your website at a reasonable price. You can set a campaign to run any length of time you require, and set your budget out upfront, so there are no end of month surprises. Spend some time researching which keyword to use, and word your advertisement in different ways. This way you will refine what works for you, and achieve the maximum results at the minimum cost.

Spotting an opportunity - Content on the fly

Content is King, as the SEO mantra goes, but how do you know what to write? I run several websites, and one of them is a Joomla site, on which I have installed a plug-in called Joomlawatch. Joomlawatch is a clever program, in that in the back end, the administrator can monitor in real time visitors to the website. Whilst sitting back with a cup of coffee, I noticed a a visitor turning up on a keyword I hadn’t really optimized for. A google search showed that on that keyword, I came in at about halfway down page three in a search results. I decided to run a quick experiment, and see if I could rank higher for the keyword in question by writing an article on the fly.

The keyword was ‘Tekena Inn’, which is a hostel on Easter Island. I quickly wrote an article, (it took about five minutes in total, including description and keywords SEO), and sent it live.

The very next day… Yes, the VERY NEXT DAY, that same article ranked on page one in the Google search results for ‘Tekena Inn’. Check it out for yourself.

Writing an article on the fly, can be quick and easy, adding content to your website, and ranking high in search engine results. If you don’t have a Joomla website, use your Google Webmaster account to analyse what search terms people are using to find your website. On each of those keyword phrases, see if you can either improve a current articles ranking, or write a new article specifically to rank high on that keyword.

Writing articles on the fly like this can also break up the monotony of the structured webmasters approach to website content creating. Even by setting aside an hour a day, you can easily create three or four unique articles within that time, adding more content to your site. More specifically, it is adding content that people are already searching for. It also a great way to hone your content writing skills, and improve your speed. Try it and see !
